There can’t be too many restaurants in Melbourne whose chef has cooked for two former American Presidents. For the past seven years James Blackman was the private chef and Estate Manager to an international entrepreneur, formerly on his yacht, and for the past three years on his private island in the Caribbean. There he cooked for the family and guests, including international celebrities and high profile personalities. James is now back in his hometown of Melbourne with a brand new restaurant. “The Table”, brings to us the skills of his early training with The Courthouse and the Graham from their inception, and later at Walter’s Wine Bar, Il Solito Posto and Jaques Reymond. To this classic grounding he brings his love of the exciting and exotic flavours of Central and South America. James’ wife Rena’s experience as a hostess, her skills of service and a wonderful eye for detail make James and Rena an excellent team. The Table derives its name from James’ childhood dining table. At this table, James helped to prepare food in his parent’s large country kitchen. This gave birth to his passion for cooking. James believes that the table is the heart of the home. It brings together friends and families in wonderful conversation and laughter as they share lovingly prepared food and local wines. The same Table has pride of place in the new restaurant.
